Noticing Municipal Innovation, Creativity, IC, Knowledge & IP

Updated: Dec 3, 2021

Leif Edvinsson, Emeritus Prof &

Rachel Pasher Eijkenaar, IP & Innovation Adv.

November 2021

Leif Edvinsson - Emeritus Prof. - first and world renowned IC professor, and Chair of this Forum's Advisory Board & Rachel Pasher Eijkenaar, Adv. IP, knowledge & Innovation practitioner, in a short talk.

Rachel and Leif - spoke within the Global Forum 4 city innovation- by ISCI (https://www.isci-globalforum4cityinnovation.com/Innovation), concentrating on the municipal staff. IC, IP & the municipality as a garden - helping the staff grow, innovate, create - all while being happy to be there.

Striving for a win win situation – an innovative and creative staff- will lead to better services and happier residents.

The talk included the advancement in countries and in municipalities, that learn to acknowledge the importance of the hidden and/or forgotten knowledge, IP and IC created in organizations in general and in municipalities specifically – new accounting tools included. Leif referred us to: https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/desi - The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) - where for example, Human capital (such as discussed in this talk- including in municipalities), is measured as well.

In addition, points were made of the principles that may lead Mayors- the "captains" of the municipal ship - to sail into a more innovative, creative, fun municipality as a work place- with a happier, prouder and a more productive staff - all of which can lead to a better, smarter and happier city or any other living zone – for those living in it and others visiting it.

Leif was happy to share here, a new book Eskil Ullberg and he wrote jointly with Caril Y Lin of Hong Kong.

The book discusses the Intangible Assets in our Societies and Municipalities . Such intangibles need to be Visualized, accounted for , Appreciated and Cultivated, otherwise, they might not only be lost but become liabilities, for present as well as future generations of residents & citizens.

Our Forum is happy to recommend reading this book and to invite you to contact with the writers for any questions. We will also examine ways to collaborate with the writers- so that principles offered within the book can be offered to all of our visitors- to implement within their municipalities.

Leif presented the book to us.
